The stud of Hortobágy was established 300 years ago by the imperial free city of Debrecen. Today it is one of the symbols of the puszta. Due to its rich and unique horse breeding traditions it takes a special place among the nationals and historical studs of Europe. Its reputation has been established by the equestrain art of the horsemen of Hortobágy and the Nonius breed – and it is also an internationally recognized horse breeding -, programme- and tourist centre in our days.

The most popular among its organized program is the horse carriage tour in the puszta introducing its natural treasures, herdsmen’s traditions, horsemen and stud, the Hungarian Gray Cattle herd and other Hungarian domestic animals typical to the area in their habitat. Besides the above, cartwright- and smith museum, cart exhibition, the black pottery workshop of Nádudvar and the stock stables of the stud can also be seen.
